My oldest degu is 4 month old and he used to like bieng stroked but after i let him free on the floor he wants to be there constantly. As soon as i open the cage door all 4 degus jump on the floor. Why is my tamest degu suddenly changed. He even chews on the bars until i open the door and squeaks until he gets his own way. My other degus never used to be the cuddly type but now none of them seem to like bieng handled. Will this change after a while.
There cage is big enough and has plenty of toys in it.

Mocha originally being a lone Degu was very happy to sit on my hand or stand to get her belly scratched. She appeared to love the attention. After she gave birth I kept her daughter Tanzania as a cage mate for her. Now neither want to take the time to stop and stay still for any length of time! They'll come and take treats out of my hand. Or sit and eat out of my hand but would rather not be held.
A lot depends on how patient you are and how much time you have to actually handle your Degus.
Mine are not opposed to coming to me and crawling all over me if I sit on the floor of our bathroom with them. They are gregarious and curious but prefer to be free to roam and not be held.
