Hi,
I have 4 male degus that are about 5 months old now.
Out of the 4 of them, there has always been one that was a little more shy than the others and not so forthcoming when coming out to play or been handled.
Over the past week or so, everytime you go near the cage the he throws a fit and just runs in whatever direction he is pointing.
When you open the cage he stays away from the door and will only come to the door if he see's the others are eating treats.
Sometimes when you try to stroke him he makes an almost like squeeky/ratty/annoyed sounding growl at you. Sometimes he will start doing this as he see's your hand approach and he has even charged at it while squeeking.
Last night he started barking repeatedly with his ears pinned back for about 20 minutes, I thought he was injured but appears fine.
This morning though, he is doing it again just repeatedly barking non stop with ears pinned back, looks quite cute actually like a little dog barking. gave him a treat (monkley nut) and he is still barking while eating it.
What could be wrong with the little degu? Quite worried!

are you sure all of the goos are boys? goos can sometimes make this noise after they have mated, but, i have 5 boys, who have all barked from time to time, so he may have just over groomed himself.
As for him being more shy, all goos have different personalities, and hes just not as confident as the others, how long have you had them?
