--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- heya, my degus are 4 months old, i ahve 2boys, and i have had them for a week. yesterday they started fighting over the wheel and their food, and last night they were fighting over nothing, they wouldnt leave each other alone. Oscar kept shoving his bum in Oreos face so he could attack his face but when he moved they scapped a bit untill Oscar put his bum in his face again to stop him. Is this just a teritorial thing or is it serious? many thanks for any replies. Report to Mod - Link to Post - Back to Top Logged

Ye it is territorial, they both wan to be the alpha male. Put two bowls in, I had to. Don't they share the wheel? Mine do.

We have three males and three wheels. They sometimes squabble over the same one, but nothing so severe as they used to when there were less than three wheels.

Sound like pretty normal behaviour to me, they are just trying to determined which one is top dog,
It is also breeding season at the moment and they tend to be more vocal and aggressive this time of year, you will probably find out they will calm down in a month or so.
Although it may look bad it is normal for degus to stand up to each other and box and drop kick each other across the room, you only need to worry when one will not back down and they start rolling around locked into a ball shape but as you are saying that one is turning his back to the other then it sounds like he is backing down.
As other are saying though is always useful to have a couple of food bowls and wheels
