Has anyone let their degus hang with a hamster? If so what did they do?

Not quite - gerbil count?
Some of my group used to sit with my ancient gerbil... only on me and only under close watch (who has since passed for un-goo-related reasons).
Two of the younger ones were very interested in her and the three would sit grooming each other (her cage mates died over three years before she finally passed so she enjoyed all attention). The older gang hated her at first sniff and were not allowed out whenever she was out as they'd climb people (mainly me) to get at her!
So. a mixed reception really! If you can handle ur goos well then try it in a similar way to introducing a new goo for the first time on neutral territory but keep a good watch on them!
The rabbit and dogs were far easier for the goos to accept - I assumed because they are so large and different the goos didnt see them as competition for grounds but just as large snuggly heat things.

All my degus love my dog, she's not quite as keen on them! Well except my old boy Alfie, she has a soft spot for him!
Not sure I'd feel comfortable introducing my hamster though. I have a syrian and they don't like company so I'm guessing he would just want to attack. Gerbils are different as they like company.
What type of hamster is it you're thinking of introducing?

Ah right, I suppose if it were a russian hamster or some other sort that does well with company then they may get on. But it would be a pretty nasty fight if you were to introduce a syrian to a degu!
What about degus and rabbits or guinea pigs? Have you heard of them being introduced successfully? I don't own either but just curious!

My sister's rabbit and my goos (when he visits or they do) all get along well. Never had any incidents of shouting or attacking each other...yet! lol- i did touch wood!
They dont sleep together or share cages or anything! But will be loose in the same room without any problems and will curl up asleep together in random places (like under the sofa). Not sure if they communicate or just figure its something warm and large to sit with...

I tried that before. And they quite liked each other, as you can see from this photo (hamster is cleaning degu's ear).

OMG that's the cutest pic! I used to keep russian hamsters until I got my goos, I don't think I would have been brave enough to let them meet though, but what sweet results with the grooming!

That goo looks in complete bliss! Like when someone gets an itch that you can't reach. Can just imagine -
Goo - "Left a bit... Up... Right... There! That feels so good.............."

Aww bless them. An unlikely friendship, but the grooming clearly shows they are buddies!

I have two robo hamsters and I have occasionally held one of the hamsters near the goos whilst the goos were in the cage. Cinnamon just ignored them but Nutmeg goes nuts. Her ears go on alert mode and she quickly hunches down i.e. ass in the air and head down near paws, like a dog does when they go on scared/alert mode (at least my doberman used to whenever he saw a cat - i mean seriously a doberman scared of cats!!). She will then race round the cage chittering away.

i was actually thinking this as my goos are very friendly and my misses daughters hamster could do with a friend as its a lil bit shy but is a syrian how would i go about introducing them ?

I think a syrian would be a different kettle of fish as they are solitary animals, so I can't see them reacting so well. The one in the pic above is a russian dwarf hamster, they are usually used to living in groups or pairs.

I was about to ask if that is a russian dwarf or a robo. Has the face of a robo but it seems a bit too big, when compared to the degu for size - seriously robos are soooo tiny! max size is 2 inches, mine are about 1.5 inches. They're not as interactive as degus but they do have cute personalities of their own. And the two suit me just fine, as the degus are very needy for attention, whilst the robos can do with less. Although i do play with them quite a bit.

Syrian hamsters are 100% solitary. It certainly doesn't need a friend! A syrian would almost definitely attack another syrian and I'm fairly confident it would attack a degu too. Really wouldn't be fair on the hamster to attempt it. It's perfectly happy on its own

just make sure you handle him properly, never pick him up, but scoop him up, i found this worked really well with all my hamsters, including my goo's, our gerbils and rats. A preditor would just pick them up xxx
