So I've posted about this before in the health section but I'm going for a different angle this time. Daisy gets sore and swollen around her lady bits when she exercises too much. It's a reccurring problem which through various means I usually sort out. This time I've had to remove her wheel (flying saucer) because she really will not get off it. They get lots of time out so I doubt it's boredom. I've left the second, less popular, wheel still in but she's just moved onto that one. Will removing both wheels at once be really cruel? I don't want to stress her out but I need her bits to have time to calm down. They've always had wheel access freely but unfortunately it's looking like I might have to ration it. Feel pretty bad about it. Anyone else had to take wheels away? :-(

I think putting it in for a few hours a day would be fine, as long as she's getting time out it'll be fine. Mine usually only go on their wheel when things are going on anyway so it's not like they're on it all the time.

The poor little love. I mean this most sincerely, but know it will sound . . . funny. It's too bad there aren't little degu sized "sports cups" to protect her daintly little bits.

Ah if only there were sport cups for goos! My problem would be over. So I left them with the back up wheel all night and it looks like pepper took the brunt of daisy's wheel aggression. :-( Peppers face is a bit of a mess, the fur is all ruffled up around her eye and down her nose, I had a feel and I'm sure daisy has bitten her. I can't win! They still love each other this morning but my poor pep! We were having such a nice time earlier on last night and then this happens. :-(

I use to have to take wheels out at night as otherwise I couldn't sleep though now they're in their own room they have it all the time. I'd say taking a wheel out in the evening and putting it back in morning time would be ok for her. It'll encourage her to "wind down and get some rest" hopefully.

I remove the wheels form my girl's cages every night (around 9pm) and they don't get them back until 7am the next morning. I've found it helps them settle down at night (very important as they are in my bedroom!) and forces them to use their other toys in the cage!
