My degu, Roadie, is a male, about 3 years old. He's usually very quiet, enjoys a healthy diet with rare treat of carrots and unsalted peanuts in the shell. He sleeps normal hours and chirps very rarely (usually while "dreaming" or in the early morning hours). In the last few days, however, he has started to act absolutely crazy.
He runs in fast circles squeaking at a high pitched, almost panicked, squeak and usually throws himself down, rolling around. I've examined him but can't find anything on him that should be bothering him or making him itch like this (since it appears as though that's what he's trying to do: scratch himself).
Any input would be appreciated.

Do you have a dust bath for him? You may need to take him to the vet to have him examined for mites. They are easy to treat, but can certainly drive a degu crazy.
It sounds like you have only the one? They are much happier and healthier when kept in groups of at leat two or more, of the same sex.

Thankies
Dust bath, yes.

I am wondering how he is doing? It has occured to me that he may also have severe ear pain that is causing him to run in circles and roll. If that is the problem, it could be caused by a number of different things, all of which need to have a vets attention. It could be the roots of his molars growing up into his head, or even out through the bottom of his jaw. Both are very painful. Or he could have an ear infection. Or even ear mites! Any of these will need professional help. I hope you are able to get in soon!
Please let us know how he is doing!
