We've had two litters by two different moms and they are completely different. I'm trying to figure out which is the more "normal" litter. 1. Lacey had 9 pups and we rarely saw them for the first week. They were huddle together to keep warm all the time. One little guy would wander out a few steps and then quickly head back in. In fact in took almost two weeks before they were all up and really exploring their surroundings with vigor. 2. Wanda had 9 pups as well but 3 were still born. (we found a third a couple days later). However, her pups were much larger in size and by the second day were all over the cage. The haven't stayed in the nest at all but continually move around the cage and find a new place to sleep every few hours. When not feeding they are playing and exploring always. So, was Lacey's litter premature or was Wanda late?

Our Milly's and Lilly's are 2 1/2 weeks apart. They were different, too. The 1st litter was more cautious, and the adults wouldn't let them roam too much. Once the 2nd litter was here, the 1st litter was EVERYWHERE! It was like the adults figured they were so outnumbered that they didn't even try keeping the 2nd litter in the nest! 14 against 3 aren't good odds!
The 2nd litter was a little bigger, but Milly only had 6. Lilly had 8. The 2nd litter just wanted to keep up with the older ones, so they were exploring much sooner.
I know that you had them separated. Mine being together made a difference, I'm sure. Have you been able to put them together yet?

We put our teenagers back together with Wanda and her babies. ;D So far, so good. No one seems upset. Hooray!

Well they were, and then Mama and one of the teenagers started fighting a bit. She wasn't hurting her so we just watched them for a while. Then I got this strange hunch. I took another look at the teenagers - yup, turns out one of the girls is a guy! Oy. Now I'll have to find a new home for him. Which is too bad cause "she" was mine.
