Wanda should be having her babies any time now. The last couple weeks she's been housed with 2 of the young ones from Lacey's litter. Make sense?? The young ones are now 8 weeks old.
When Wanda's pups come can the young ones stay with her or do they have to be moved into another cage? They are very active as they are young but would they hurt the babies or help the mother?
Any ideas??

Oh, my! They will be so excited. ;DYou won't believe how much love will be there! Lilly's 8 pups were about 3 weeks old when Milly's 6 were born. The older babies were so excited, but they never came close to hurting them. They were very gentle, even while trying to play with them. I saw 1 older pup try to play with a teeny one, but just stopped after he fell on his huge head trying to keep up with his older brother! I would highly recommend that they stay all together. They will cuddle with the babies while Mom takes short snack and drink breaks. I would have never believed how wonderful they are together, until I witnessed it myself. You will see love, like no other animal. They will help with grooming and nest building. I have also noticed that Milly's pups are less timid with us at a younger age, because of observing their older siblings. In my opinion, I would definitely keep them together. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted with progress reports and pics! Laurie

Thank you!! We're hoping the babes come tonight actually. Lacey's came at the full moon and we're there again so the kids are trying to predict the birth. ;D

We were thinking the babies would come last week. They still aren't here!! Wanda is huge. When we talk about her sitting around the cage we're not kidding. She's really sitting AROUND the cage. ;D Wanda is about twice the size Lacey was when she had 9 babies, I'm worried Wanda will have 14 or so. She looks so uncomfortable and can only waddle around the cage.

It might not be too bad. Milly got bigger than Lilly did. Lilly had 8 pups, and Milly only had 6, but they looked a little bigger than Lilly's. Don't panic yet . Laurie

That is good to hear. This isn't a little bigger - it's a LOT bigger but that's still good news. ;D Usually on our large wheel Wanda and the two young ones can run side by side. Now when the young ones try they just get shoved off. Of course, Wanda can't run on the wheel, she just waddles for a couple of steps and then stops to breath hard and waddles again. hehe

OH, that's exactly what our girls did! It was so sad that they wanted to run so bad, but could simply wobble. They wouldn't let anyone else on that wheel, either! They were going to try until it worked, I guess. We have a Wodent Wheel. They have large holes to climb into the wheel, so it's partially closed. Their bellys would scrape the sides as they waddled around. It was funny. Sad, but funny! Our 14 year old son thought it was hilarious! Step, step, step, stop to rest...Step, step, step, stop to rest, and on and on and on!LOL

I just remembered something else that make you feel better about Wanda's size. I was always amazed that a lot of people don't even know they are going to have pups, only to wake up in the morning to find 6-8 new faces looking at them! Maybe Wanda can't hide the fact as well as Lacey could. She may be like our Lilly and Milly, and Lacey, like the degus that could "hide it well". Please keep us updated! Luck to you, Laurie
