Ok i'm trying not to get too worried BUT........................ I am having horrible thoughts that one of my males is actually a female!. I was told by the RSPCA that they were both males and when i checked myself i was certain they were males, however brush's spacing is slightly shorter than Basil's. Anyway..... Brush is getting fat! and he eats no more than Basil and i'm just petrified that he might actually be a 'she'. He is quiet more than usual. As you know my two are not in the same cage but they have been introduced on neutral ground and as i stated before in another thread, was bonking normal for two males (yes) but what if they are not both males. I don't know what to do I know the pregnancy is approx 90 days so if he is pregnant then he must already be 30 days gone, since their first introduction. Please someone tell me that this could just be a fat greedy boy!!! and NOT a preggers female

Well, our Nilly turned out to be a Willy! But, you may just have a chunker. The reason that I say that is because, as huge as Lilly got, she really didn't start chunking up until about 3-4 weeks before giving birth. At 1 month, I doubt that you can tell yet.
Willy is naturally skinny. I worried about him, but he's OK.
Seeing a difference in spacing may cause a concern, however. I couldn't notice much of a difference in Willy until it was too late!
Wish you luck! Laurie

And our Coco turned out to be Buddy Boy! In our degus the spacing was pretty noticeable though, so you could be OK. Maybe you should do what Laurie did and start weighing Brush on a postage scale.
Good luck!

ilovemydegus I have the same fear about our Austin, who we have started calling "fatty"! The shelter we got them from assured me they were all boys, but all the oops announcements on the boards scares me. My only consolation is that he sits in the food dish and chases everyone away until he is finished. LOL! So I am just praying he is a pig, not a pregnant girl! My 4 guys are only 4 months old and we are just getting them to walk into our hands after 2 1/2 weeks so checking their privates has not been possible. But I have noticed I can see all their little thingees hanging down from behind. I have read that although both male and female have this appendage it is bigger on boys. Is that true? And is it enough different that I would see it on a boy and not on a girl? Anyone know?

well, i was a little concerned with Tiki and Tino 'cause one would play leapfrog with the other one and my husband kept swearing one was a girl. um, i was finally convinced they were both boys when their maleness was evident when they were let's say very excited. and when i caught :-Xthem each "cleaning" themselves. hope this helps some.

HA! Oh I know one of my 4 boys is all BOY! Now if I had the time to sit and watch them all "groom" I would be sure. LOL!
