Well, they just made "Friday the 13th"! ;D She just climbed in a jar that I shove their hay into, and started delivering. I hope she has enough room in there. I can't see anything that's going on now. We did see a couple little pink bellies roll out, but Lilly picked them up quick and put them back in. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow. Laurie

4, I counted 4. Oh, my, they are gorgeous! Lilly came out just for a very short time to get a dust bath, so I was able to peek inside. Milly doesn't know what the heck to do. She's sitting away from Lilly and the pups, looking confused. She peeked in the jar a couple times. Poor Willy. He's in his separate cage on the other side of the room. Don't worry, he has the 5 story cage, for now. He can hear every little peep. We have had the girls in a huge 1 story cage, so the pups wouldn't get hurt climbing. It may be a long night for all of them! What day do you think would be a good day to put Willy back with his family? I thought it may be alright on Monday

maybe try saturday night, sunday morning? i read on here earlier that sometimes if removed, they will not re-integrate well, make sure you keep the smells the same, if your using a dustbath, take out some of the sand for willy's cage, just too keep the scent going.

OH,MY. I was up so late last night with the kids watching Lilly, that my husband got up before I did. I asked him if he checked on our babies. He said that he had a hard time looking in the jar, but he saw them moving all around. I asked him if he could see all 4, and he said "sweet pea, there is at least 6-8 in there"! I hurried up and went out. Lilly was pulling hay in the jar. I started talking to her, and she came out. I looked in the jar and there are at least 8. Possibly 9. They are beautiful and all look healthy. They are all trying to wonder around, but Lilly is tucking them back in. This is so weird! Last night she had 4 babies. She was out roaming around, even taking a sand bath. She also had the afterbirth, I saw it. Then later she had 4 more? ? . How odd! Milly(the other expecting girl) seems very upset. I kept her in with Lilly to help with the babies, but she isn't going near them. She's even sort of "snippy" toward Lilly and even me. Maybe she should go in with Willy for a while. Don't know what's going on there. I'll update again later.

Thanks for reminding me about the sand. With everything else going on around here, I probably would have forgotten.

I had no idea how many babies to expect. Mocha had the first while I was sitting here on my laptop in the office. After that I think there were a couple of more then I was frantic most of the afternoon calling the pet shop, searching on-line and posting for help. I'd bought a Degu handbook but never read anything about babies or birthing. I did some might fast speed reading comparing what happened to what was supposed to happen. Later in the evening I remember thinking there were 6. The next day I counted and re-counted and determined there were 8. A week later when I finally cleaned the entire cage I found the poor little dead baby under the nest box so she had 9. From your description of Lilly and her pictures I'm not at all surprised she had 8 - 9 pups. Wonder how many Milly will have? They sure will keep you busy.

Congrats! When Lacey had her babies a month ago she had one on Saturday night and was up roaming around. We thought that was it (we hadn't even known she was preg). Then by Sunday morning there were 9. We're having a lot of fun watching them grow. It's hard to know in the next 2 weeks they have to leave us.
