Ok as many of you know I recently adopted two girls as companions for my Rocky. Rocky immediately tried to mate with one of the girls, and a couple of nights ago I was woken in the middle of the night by his mating call, seemingly he had succeeded, but I didn't know who he had mated with.
Anyway, one of my girls, the one Rocky WASN'T trying to mate with all the time, was on the wheel today with her behind facing me, and as her bum went up there was...something...there.
I read about a 'plug' that females get when they're pregnant, could anyone tell me what this looks like?
This is where my confusion lies; I picked up the girl in question and had a look down there, and it looks like she has a penis! But I can only see it if I hold her on her back and look closely, not if she's just standing up on her own, this is the same with the other girl.
The reason I originally thought they were girls was because of this, whereas with Rocky you can see his penis clearly whether he's standing up or sitting down or whatever.
So what does this plug look like? Is it possible that my girl is really a boy? Or is she pregnant? I'm so confused right now because if she is really a he, there has been no attempt from her to mate with any of the others!

Both male and female Degus have external conical "parts". I was fooled by the same when I bought my lone Degu. I was sure the pet store was correct in sexing "him" as male. Well "he" was a she and had a litter of pups about six weeks after I bought her. Had to change the name from Virgil to Mocha Java!!!
Both sexes will mount one another as a show of dominance.
Sorry but it may not have been the wisest decision to get two girls for your boy. Do you really want to be overrun by Degu pups? You do realize they can have up to 9-10 puppies in each litter? Having babies is hard on the moms too. It will shorten their lifespan each time they give birth and raise a litter.
