To confirm our suspicions that we had gotten much more than we bargained for when we took in the 4 degus in May, there has been another run of degu bebes...This time, just 5, born yesterday. So, we now have 3 confirmed females, one male, and 21 bebes at 3 wks, 2 wks, and newborn. *Sigh*

WOW, your hands are fuller than mine were with 2 litters! Bless You! Keep smiling and try to enjoy them. Where are you going to put all these beauties? We would have had to build on another room if we had anymore! I was able to re home everyone, and our "surprise" male also has a new loving home. We were able to keep 1 little girl from the last litter. Wishing you patience and luck, Laurie

Actually, this makes the 3rd litter in a month...But, we at least KNOW who the male is. ( He's the one always WEEPing whenever we look in.)

Congratulations on your new litter. this is my first post so i hope i get it right. I foster degus for the RSPCA, they brought me 4 about 12 weeks ago, 6 weeks ago i found that we had gained 3 babies, unfortunatly 1 died at a few days old. Well 2 days ago low and behold another 3 babies. I am hoping i have sexed them right and the males are now seperate from the females. i now have 2 babies at 6 weeks and 3 babies at 2 days.

Our bubs are getting big fast. You can still tell the last litter from the other two by size. However, the first litter seems to be going through a coat change, giving them a two-toned "hooded" look, while the middle litter still has a grey "cloudy" look to them. Nearly all the babies, and the adults, come running whenever one of us goes near the cages. The adults will stand up and "beg".
Sadly, we lost the mom to this litter on July 25...She had rapidly wasted away on us in a matter of days. We're not sure if the birthing, and subsequent nursing was a factor yet, since some of the older bubs were attempting to nurse as well. All 5 of the litter are getting stronger and bigger.
