Hi all, We had our first unexpected litter of 4 almost 2 months ago now.. we left the dad with them for the first couple of weeks to help out as that seemed to be the general consensus. We separated the girls and boys (3 of each, handy!) at 5 weeks.. but it now looks as though the mum is now pregnant again.. doh! Does anyone know if we should leave the mum in the cage with her 2 daughters, or should she be on her own? not sure how the daughters will react to babies that aren't their own but also don't really want to leave mum on her own... Any advice from similar experiences appreciated thanks! Also if anyone is looking for Degu's in the Bucks/Berks area.. we have a few!!

The remaining litter should be fine in with mum. Degus all help each other out with babies and seen as this litter is weened they should be OK!
As long as the males are separated then she shouldn't get pregnant again

Can anyone explain why it's the general consensus to leave dad in with mum 'to help out' if the randy sod get's his claw over again so swiftly? I would've removed him immediately but everyone said she'd get lonely and depressed without him. It's a bit annoying for me, let alone for her!!!

i think daddy has to come out for about 24 hours because this is when mom is very very firtile again. i know a few people who have used this time to get him snipped. after 24 hours (ish) he is safe to go back in again. until she next comes into season. (without being snipped) does what i've typed make sence?

My goos recently had pups, and after 3 days I placed the male in, I dont keep him in there over night or all day, as I have another female in there and would rather her not get pregnant, Lola (the mommie!) doesnt seem to mind the company of the Male, but she seems to get along fine without him. I mean 9 degus in one cage is alot!! lol (2 adult females, 1 Male, and 6 pups!)
So for now I think that is how it is going to go, hope this helps
