So long as the baby is female, there should be no problem at all. In fact, all three would probably be fine together, Dad, Mum, and baby girl.

im going to get the male neutered in the next couple of weeks, just in time for the babies to leave mum. I was wondering if it is ok to leave one girl in cage and not seperate them at all after 6-8 weeks ?

Totally!! They are a family group, and the social connection is very strong. There shouldn't be any trouble with that at all. With Dad "tied in a knot" there won't be any risk of interbreeding, so sounds like a plan to me! What do you others think?

Don't leave it too late to neuter the male, they always say it takes a few days for everything to leave his system etc.
This is a quote from some research on rats and neutering 'After neutering, sperm move rapidly through the epididymis (Sujarit and Pholpramool 1985). The epididymis atrophies, becomes hostile to sperm, and slowly destroys them (Arya and Vanha-Perttula 1985). Within 3-4 days after castration the sperm in the epididymis lose their mobility, lose the ability to fertilize, and die (Dyson and Orgebin-Crist 1973).'
I believe the same could be true for degus. There have been storied of rats that have been placed with females practically immediatly after neutering and getting pregnant. The little girl shouldn't get pregnant as it takes around 6 months for her to sexually mature but he might get the mum again if you leave it too late.

After a lot of thinking im going to get another 3 tier cage for the babies i will be keeping. I already have a small cage what the babies what have to go can temporally live in. This is because it makes my stomach go thinking about (imagine if that was me ). 2 or 3 babies???
