I've been searching the internet for hours trying to find out more about degu babies, but haven't had much luck. Can anybody point me to a site that might have some info about raising babies?
Ours are almost 4 days old now and I would have thought that they would be venturing out of the nest. One crawled out two days ago, but then crawled right back in. I can see them moving around in there and hear them cheeping.
I can't wait for them to emerge!

Thank you Amieelou -- I'm not very outgoing so I hope our degus aren't like me!
They are 10 days old now and are finally coming out to play more and more. I was able to get a head count yesterday -- there are 5! They are picking up little bits of hay with their tiny hands and eating it, and some are even picking up teensie little pieces of paper and carrying them back to the nest! They are SO CUTE! My husband thinks that we should keep them all.
I'll post some pictures when I can -- I took some yesterday that didn't turn out because I was afraid to use the flash.

Hi Degu friend, I hope you can help me. I got my degus six years ago ( Branston and Pickle ) ( both boys ) and unfortunately Branston has just passed away. My concerns now are for Pickle. I know that some animals pine for their buddies and I am worried that pickle may pine for Branston. I have been paying him a lot of extra attention now that he is on his own, but I know that it is not the same as having his buddy with him. I was thinking of introducing another degu or a chinchilla to him. But I don't know if that would be wise, as he is now in degu old age. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Many thanks. Blondehootie.

That really depends on you, in some ways. Do you wish to continue owning degus? I mean, are you willing to have degus another 6-8 years? If so, then I think it would be helpful to get him a companion. Knowing that his time is more easily predictable as limited, it would probably be wise to purchase 2 young goos to be his companions with the view that when the day comes for his passing, they will still be companions for each other. They will still mourn, but it won't be such a severe shock. (Hopefully)
If you feel that your time with degus is just about full, and once pickle is also gone, you're done too, I would pour as much time into loving and being a companion to him as you can. If he deeply mourns, he may not live much longer, and you need to be prepared for that.
