Hello all! I was wondering if anyone else on here has had problems with the pets at home complaints procedure? I got my degus in november from the pets at home branch in Preston, and at this point, despite hearing horror stories from pets at home I still trusted them as the degus in this store always look well looked after. Anyway I fell in love with two degus, that I was told was a pair of females. But all of a sudden one started getting quite fat, as though she was pregnant and it turns out that she is female, but the other cage mate is male! I did the degutopia sex check! I cant believe pets at home can get away with doing this! I'm so mad as I'm in love with my goos now, and can't part with either and I know I'm gonna be the same when the babies come along, so the only option is to buy another cage! the pets at home cages are £90 though! n theyre no frills, but its all I can get my hands on at the moment, Ive sent a letter to them which just got ignored and an email, also ignored asking them to provide me with another cage. I'm just wondering if anyone else has got anywhere customer service wise in the same situation, as I doubt I'm the first on this forum that this has happened to! thankyou in advance for any input

Try ebay or preloved for a cage the P@H one is not really suitable for more than 2 adult degus. Also I advise spliting your degus up, or else you could be over-run with babies in no time at all. Finally I know P@H are rubbish, but you should have really double checked the sexes, as they sell alot of different pets and can't always get them right. I know they are partly responsible but it is not entirely their fault as they are not experts and therefore you can't take their word for it. I'm not having a go at you, I promise.

I have found they can take a couple of weeks to reply to them, I suggest going back into the store and complaining and calling them. You need to push them but don't expect them to pay for another cage! When I adopted two females that were both pregnant they just sent some vouchers - though circumstances were a little different. Push them though or you won't get anything.

ha ha I know that now! i think its really irresponsible of them though since I was a first time owner, but from now on any animal that I get in a pair is gonna get checked before i bring it home. I'm having a look at john hopewell cages, they seem really well made and quite large! I have no idea how many babies she may have, with it being from 1-12 lol

pets at home are always like that, well ... from my experience. I think they've sexed my degus wrong, and when I asked about buying more to introduce, they told me I couldn't put a divider in my cage, and tried to get me to buy a whole new cage, costing £90.... so much for that idea lol

They tried to sell you their £90 cage? Haha their having a laugh, you'd either buy a divider or get a cage second hand, why would you need a brand new one? (crazy people)

nooooo! did they really? well to be fair putting a divider in the cage would make it a bit too small, but to suggest a new cage at £90 to go straight into their back pocket is wrong! I used to work in a shop and I think the way theyre treating customers is apalling! If there was another decent pet shop in preston I'd go there, but i have to admit they are good for supplies and sugar free treats. Cage wise, if I was you I'd have a look on john hopewells website, some are a little more expensive, but you get what u pay for

lucky you! lol, I only have the space to keep a max of 3 girls and 3 boys but the only place I cna take any of the other babies is pets at home for adoption, but I'll sex them before I take them, and I have to say, my local P@H (although making sexing mistakes) is quite good, all the animals there seem v healthy and well looked after, the cages are always clean and have approriate toys etc in, and the baby degus are never in there long
