my rescue degu kathrinegave birth to one baby and the next day she let me see the baby but it was dead is this normal to give birth to only one i am keeping a close eye on her shes been brave i need advice

This does occasionally happen . . . especially with first litters. But keeping an eye on her is a good idea. You may want to even take her out for a run around and then check through her cage to be sure there weren't other pups that also died. Sometimes the mum's will bury them under the bedding if they have died. If there are other dead pups, you will want to remove them.
I'm sorry for the death of her known pup. You must feel very devastated for her. She may mourn her pup, so if you see her looking quieter than usual, give her more attention yourself and bring her out of the cage a little more often. It will help her.

this is her third litter her first all dead 2nd all alive and its only one pup so far she let me take the pup so shes coping well

I don't know much about breeding tbh, but if she had two other litters with multiple babies, I'd be worried that she might have unborn babies still stuck inside her.
