I wasn't too what category this would fit in, so I posted it here When I bought my Degus I was told they were twelve weeks old. This was about a month ago. I seriesously doubted this even at the time, but because of having nothing to go by.... I honestly wasn't sure. There were six of them in the tank they were keeping them in and I was told they were all brothers. I've read that a fully grown adult Degu should weigh somewhere in the region of 220 - 250grams. I weighed the boys last night and Sammy came in at 160grams and Dean, 190grams. Dean is the larger of the two, but by no means fat. Does anyone have any idea what age they MIGHT be? It'd just be nice to have an approx really so I can assign them a birthday and an age (because I'm far tooooo soft like that!).

Hello Amie Adult degus can weight anywhere from 170-250 grams. I cannot be certain for sure without seeing photos of them, but it would seem to me like they are older than you were told. 190 grams is fairly normal for an adult degu. Its hard to tell for certain though.
If you could post some photos it would be much easier to give you an estimate.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm still trying to figure out how to post pictures, but I will as soon as I do, lol.
I thought they were more around the six months mark and I'd never seen Degus before!

I've just managed to put a picture of Sammy up. Hell - me and computers certainly don't mix!

From the photo you posted, they do look fairly young...no more than a few months of age. On first glance, I would think them to be between 4-5 months old...but its hard to tell for sure.

Well, in that case, the pet shop might have been right. If I've had them for a month, that would make them sixteen weeks (about four months old) if they were twelve weeks when I bought them home. They must be almost fully grown though considering their weight. I appreciate you taking the time to look and help me out Thank you!
