Went to P@H yesterday - they had 2 Goos in there. The poor things looked awful. Their coats were thick and clumpy and dull and they looked so bored and depressed. No wheel in the cage. I really did want to rescue them but I don't agree with paying P@H for them 'cos they'll just get more from the breeder to replace them, thinking that they're popular. I really don't think pet shops should be selling Goos at all.

They can't be well, looking like that!! The poor little things! I think a complaint is definitely in order, if you can manage it.

I went into my local p@h today and they had seven goos in one of their cages, the ones they sell that are two teir, they were all fighting over one bowl of food and one water bottle!!!!! I spoke to the guy in there and asked him about them as he knows i have rescue ones and he said that when they get bigger he will move them !!! I think he may be doing it sooner now i have spoken to him but they had gray ones in their too and they were lovely but it was a complete mess

P@H's are just a joke! I am sick of complaining, but not a lot seems to happen. I did complain, that they had no wheel, and they have put on in, but why hasn't it been done at all the stores? I;m not sure who else to complain too, did try the pet care trust, who said they had passed my email on to P@H, even though i had it myself?

I'd respond to the PCT and say exactly that, tell them that you already DID complain to P@H and were sending the complaint to them too because nothing was being done nationwide to deal with the issues surrounding the health and welfare of these specific animals, and if the PCT do nothing to help then they are as big a joke as P@H's policies regarding informed decision making for pet owners with advice from "trained" staff. Trading Standards and the RSPCA/PDSA might be the next step if the PCT is going to prove as useful as a television to a degu :-)

hey - My goos like the tv!
But yeah, go as high up as u can re P@H complaints as then the message seems to get through. My first days of complaining were when I bred chipmunks and they treated them the same (no wheel no bed no where to get away from prying eyes and nothing to entertain them) but a few complaints sorted it. I've done the same with the goos at a number of my local P@H and they now also have in sand baths, wheels, hiding boxes and put new toys in straight from the shelves when they've finished chewing.
Seems the only way to sort it is to make it a big issue unfortunately
