I just had the shock of my life!!
I went down to lunch as per normal, finished and went upstairs to only find Chewy sitting in the cage!! I noticed the cage door was WIDE open! I looked about the cage could see no sign of Gus, Mario or Luigi!
So me, my brother and my mum did a quick sweep of the upstairs and surely enough, the other three boys had taken a day trip outside of the cage and into the other bedrooms!
Mario took a liking to my brothers bedroom, and he was hidden in a towel rack looking really frightened! Luigi and Gus were in my Mum and Dad's room, they were hiding behind the headboard of their bed!
Mario and Luigi were easy to get as they were very eager to get back in (I don't think they liked it.. at all!!) but Gus was so frightened, he kept going to one of the bed and then the other but would quickly run away before we could pick him up (without scaring him!). But we finally managed to catch him by coaxing him with some Porridge Oats.
The big worry was that both of the rooms they went had electricals in! Luckily Mario decided not to take a liking to my brothers Xbox 360, PS3, TV or sound system cables. However, Luigi and Gus DID decide to take a chew at my Mum and Dad's table lamps. They had chewed through the rubber bit BUT luckily did not chew the copper wire or the blue wire (My dad is an electrician, he said we were lucky to catch them when we did as if they had chewed the blue wire they would have been electrocuted!! ). I think they began chewing because they could hear our voices and footsteps, so it was probably scaring them. But Luigi and Gus had a really close shave.
The cage is in my bedroom, on the first floor - I was so worried just incase they'd venture down the stairs and hurt themselves.
Plus, my dog Oscar was a slight worry if he had gone upstairs to find three degu's running around. We don't think he would have done anything, as he is very docile and kind. I think he would have just watched them, but that's not saying one of the degus was going to bite him and he'd turn.
The door was closed shut but wasn't locked by my Dad (I'm not blaming him, not fault of his - I should of checked it) who was sorting out one of their wheels (He was drilling a hole in one so we can block it up). He must of thought he locked but instead just pushed it shut. Then of course, the boys were running in their wheels (I have a comfort wheel and it's so loose and wobbly! (soon to be replaced by a Silent Spinner)) and it must of slowly opened the door wide enough so they could jump out! Either that, or one of them leaned on the door. But the thing is, is my cage is on a stand so they must have either fell or jumped from the cage to the stand and decided to have a look about. But they wouldn't have been able to get back up the stand! When I went down to have lunch, I assumed the cage was locked as it was shut so I never checked it!
And now their all back in their cage, I think they're a bit shocked still. Very tired I might add! But they are OK nonetheless.
Phew, enough drama for me today!
