Hi, my degu is only 160g and I'm aware a healthy degu should be about 220-250g. He is about 3 years old and he is eating and drinking but he seems to still be losing weight Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like he could have become diabetic. If you call your nearest pharmacy, you should be able to locate some diabetic testing strips that you dip into urine. These will work with degus as well, and all you have to do is take your goo in question out of the cage and let him run about on a hard surface until you see him wee. Then dip the test strip into the wee and see what result you get. In the mean time, there is a thread on this health board that is here at this link deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=health&action=display&thread=6023 Have a look at this and maybe you can put it together for him. I would recommend that you go VERY light on treats, or even no treats at all for the time being . . . until you have a result anyway. If he tests positive for diabetes, go to your vet right away and get their advice. I hope you will get good news! Let us know how things turn out, please?

Do you have a carry case/cage. Normally the first thing they do is mark the cage. Or a bucket will do as well.
