Hello, my degu is sick. He's been sleeping all day long. I wouldn't say he's lethargic as when i let him out of cage for a bit, he was running (walking) around my room but when back in cage he goes straight to his sleeping bag. He would leave the bed only for minute to do his business and than sleeps again. The poo was unusually shaped and very soft, not wet. He drunk and ate nothing today. Not even his treats, ate only a hazelnut. I took him to rspca vet but was turned down. Vets are closed today and emergency one is really expensive. Shall i try to feed him? I saw some posts that I can put some nuggets in water??? Thanx

Water bottle works ok, my room is quite cool, not too cold. I went to rspca in Holloway as they run emergency today but was told they only take people on benefits or low income. Is all rspca like this??? I need to go to work now. Will try to take time off work tmrw to take him to vet.

Hi, Eugene is doing much better. Still seems a bit 'lazy' to me, but maybe it's just me checking on him too much I was so stressed when he looked sick that I didnt close the cage properly when went to work and the girl (his cagemate Silver) ran away. She is fine but I need to check my room properly as she's a big chewer (wires and wallpaper are her favourite). Anyway I wonder if he really was apathetic because of the hot weather we're having. My room is usually cool, even in summer as I dont get any proper sunshine in here. And I left them ice pod in cage (which they ignored and kept napping in their warm sleeping bag). Glad he's ok and thanx for the advice!!!
