I'm new to the Degu world, and I'm interested in getting one. I am interested from learning from the best, and I had some questions I wanted answered before I just plunged in and got.
1) Is it better to get 1 or 2 to start with?
2) How big of a cage for the starting Degu(s)? (is one that is roughly 10"x18" with bottom plus one level good?)
3) Besides, Cage, Degu, Food, Water, Dust Bath, Wheel, and Substrate ( recycled newspaper w/ baking soda is what i was told) is there anything else that I need?

Hi
Welcome to your new adventure.
You need to get two goos as they need company and get depressed if they live on their own, also you need to get same sex as you'll end up with hundreds!!!!
Bit difficult to tell how big your cage is but ours is about a metre tall by about half a metre depth and just under a metre wide.
As for other accessories, you'll need a nesting box for their bed and also lots of goos like hammocks. You can also make the cage more interesting by adding shelves and tunnels.
We also have a giant ball, this allows time out of the cage without wires being chewed!!!
Good luck with your new additions.

Two degus should have atleast a 100x50x100 cm size cage.

Thanks alot, I have done a lot of research about rats, and yes I realize a goo isn't a rat, but still many similarities, like people saying having one is fine. I will have to take a tape measure with me when i go to buy the cage, because there no way the cage the recommended for a single go is even half those dimensions given by rob3rt. Thanks a lot, and glad I'm about to be a goo owner.

A solid surface is the best solution, but I have used these wheels and they are OK. The grid is very small and I don't think they can get caught in them. Ours never have. There are plastic flying saucer wheels that are good too . . . just have to make sure they don't chew on them.

i went ahead and bought a cage that had a wheel with it, and it was very similar to that one, and it looks like it should be okay for them.
