Hey, I'm looking to get my very first Degus. I will be getting the Pets at home cage and yes I do realise it is small (I am getting 3 Degus). I am up early in the morning in my own flat running so I have enough time before college to put them out a give them a free run early in the morning and at night before bed. Questions I have is: 1.) Does anyone know where I can get Degus from Pets at Home around my area (Manchester) 2.) If not, does anyone know any private breeders or even resue centres offering Degus around my area? 3.)Do Degus smell really bad? (Something I have been told) 4.) If they do, does anyone know anything to combat this? Thanks everybody and would like to say this is a brilliant forum and any help is greatly appreciated! Brad

best thing is to ring each storer or pop in to see if p@h do near you.Degus do not smell as an animal, but like any animal they can smell if kept in dirty cages. So if you change bedding, etc as required then smells are kept to a minimum. Also ensure they have a dust bath every day or a minimum of 2/3 times a week. They are easy to look after as long as you ensure you have read up about what they require etc. You could also try preloved for degus near you, I often see Degus that could be in your area, though not looked for a while.

I would buy a bigger cage but I can't because of room, the only one I can fit is the P@H one which I'm glad is big enough but they will be out of it for at least an hour a day (once they are comfortable) and I will be interacting with them alot. Not just there for eye candy.

We have the P@H cage and we have 3 Degus in it. They seem to have plenty of space and lots of toys and hidyholes so they can all have their little spaces to themselves. We're saving up for a bigger cage (we've chosen the one we want already) but for now they seem happy enough in that cage. We love it because of the pull-out tray which is so handy for cleaning them out.
We clean them out every couple of weeks and we dont seem to notice any smell really, unless we leave them for longer than 2 and a half/3 weeks (something we've only done once due to family emergency!) I did try and put some cage fresh granules down on the bottom of the tray but it didn't seem to make any difference anyway!
Happy Degu hunting!! ;D
