Hi, I got my degus yesterday for my birthday today (go me) and I was wondering what i should do with the sand bath. I have read that some people give them it as a treat and some people leave it in all the time as a toilet, what are peoples recommendations on this?
I use chinchilla dust in a large metal bowl.
thanks x

I give sand as a treat for a while. Otherwise degus mess it up and bathing in sand like this make their coats dirty.

Happy birthday! I use the dust bath as a treat to get them back in the cage after playtime.

Mine love there sand bath once a day before bed time. Milly gets so excited about it she starts rolling around in her cage. I have left there bath in there for a day and after a while they get bored and play in there wheel. ;D

I have a sand bath permanently in the cage, but change the sand as often as i can. This way if i cant get to the cage in the day they still have the sand when ever. Its in a very deep hooded bowl so they can play to their hearts content!
