Is it true that cedar bedding is harmful?! I had no idea! My degu has always lived in cedar bedding... I had never heard this before, but I found this video on YouTube= www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iqtNox-AaM&NRThe degu is suffering from a respiratory infection, which apparently was caused by the cedar bedding it was being housed in. HELP! Is this true?! Should I run out and buy some other kind of bedding?!

Yes the essetial oils in the cedar bedding is not safe for Degus. Please do change your bedding immediately. I use the Ultra Carefresh. The regular Carefresh is fine too and a little less expensive.
I had a Sheltie that was allergic to the cedar chips I put around my trees and bushes in the yard too. His poor little feet were an awful mess. I had to dispose of all that mulch.
Degus being so small can be adversly effected by the cedar pretty quickly.

Ah! I was so scared by reading that that I changed my bedding as soon as I read it (my roommate and I have Carefresh on hand because our hamsters seem to like it) and before I even read your reply. I really had no idea! Even the small petstore that I bought my degu from told me to use Cedar bedding! How could they mislead me?! GAH! >_<
