Hello, Stacy!! Welcome to the forum, and to the world of degus. You are doing a wise thing, researching and learning all that you can before hand . . . but you can still expect to be surprised by degus. They can do the weirdest stuff! It will be fun to hear of the arrival of the new degus!! I enjoy being reminded of those days and falling so madly in love with these little sweeties. It is great to have you join us!

Welcome. Just a word of advice from someone who adopted four females back in June – check to make sure that they are indeed four females. My four females ended up being three females and a male, and now I have 16 degus. If I had to do it all again, I would have learned to identify males from females (I thought they were like gerbils, but they are not. The anatomy of males and females look very much alike.) and/or taken them to an experienced vet to be sexed.(You can also post pictures on this site and forum members can help you.) I love my 16 degus but they are alot of work and are expensive to keep (I spend an average of 3 hours a day; $75 a week taking care of the lot). That said, they are the sweetest creatures. They know me, they look forward to me spending time with them, and they love each other. Every dollar/minute spent with them is worth it and then some. Also, joining this forum was the best thing. Looking forward to reading more about your degus when you get them! ;D

I can only imagine the hard work that goes into caring for 16, i have tried to educate myself on sexing the babies watched videos got a book and that. Fortunately the place i will be buying from are excellent and have so much interaction with the animals i trust them but i will get them double checked by my vet i have a young son who is hard work in himself and my naughty budgie so last thing i want is loads of babies as i know i wouldn't be able to re-home them( i get too attached) I cannot wait to get them, this site has been such a help for me too, Ill make sure i post some pics once they are home & settled in
