hey everyone sorry for the long absence....uni work is a bore! i was trying to find something to liven up the girls dinners (seing as those nuggets do look a bit boring) and i remembered hearing that you could try adding guinea pig mix to it, i couldnt get the gertie mix so i thought id try wilkos own so i wasnt spending a bomb incase they didnt like it! Now i know that there are something that may need removing (such as sweetcorn and sunflower seeds) but the mix i have doesnt have any of that in it so but i just thought id double check before i gave it to them, there is hopefully a picture attached below vvvvvvvv this is the ingredient list too if that helps grass pellets extruded wheat flaked beans flaked peas flaked maize linseed lozenges grass whole oats flaked wheat pellets flaked soya bean soya oil vitamins and minerals EC permitted colourants any help would be amazing thanks tanya xxxxx

Pellets are the very dark round sticks, some of these are bound with molasses or fats/oils...the ones bound with molasses are definitely a no-no but I don't think there's any way to tell apart from testing them or asking the manufacturers...they look exactly like the ones in Gertie (which I take out, but not because they're not allowed them...none of the degus seem to like them and it saves me time if I take them out before feeding rather than keep on feeding them the food with it in) so they might be either. Other than that it looks fine to me, but an email to the manufacturers asking them about suitability for degus would be worth doing (esp. if you were going to check with them for the pellets anyway)

i;ve got to be honest and say, i wouldn't feed my goos a mix. What will happen, is they will eat the mix, and leave the nuggets, this is what happened when i tried my lot with a mix and some nuggets, it took me weeks to get them to eat the nugget, and at least when they eat the nuggets, you know they are getting everything they need xx

The thing is nuggets are boring...I feed mine a mix (no nuggets) and let them have other supplements elsewhere to ensure they get what they need...one upshot is that they sometimes welcome nuggets as a meal as they're no longer bored of it. Of course, another option is supplementing nuggets with a mixture of bits from C2C's online store
