Hi all, I'm not sure if there is somewhere on here that already has tips, but i haven't seen any... But anyway, I think my boy is about 4/5 years old now, not too sure as he didn't come from a pet shop or anything, he came from a girl who had to give him a better home as she was going away to uni. We've never really tamed him, when he's eating his food you can stroke him on his back for a while then he seems to bark at us, like a warning sign. Never ever tried to bite us though. We have picked him up once or twice before, but only to get him back into his cage after a run around Anyone got any tips? thanks Kimmy x

you need to build the trust up with him. Try feeding him some oats. Put them in your hand, and see if he will eat them. If he won't approach you, put some in his cage, only a small amount. Once you know he likes them, try and get the oats, as close to him, without scaring him, and take it from their. It may take you days, or even weeks, but with my first pair, i had them eating out of my hand within hours. Once he will eat it out of your hand, move the oats onto your arms, so he has to put his paws on your hand, again, take it slowly, as rushing will just spoil all your hard work. I;d also be more inclinded to get him out of his cage more.
Chins are like goo's where you have to watch every nuck and cranny, so allow him some play time and lie down, on the floor, and see if he will climb on you. Again, this may take some time, but it is all about trust xxx

Success My little boy is eating out of my hand already, he even resorted to liking my hand once the oats were gone. My degu seems to like them more though, near enough grabbing my hand to stop me pulling away from him Note; Chinchilla and the goo are not in the same cge before anyone panic's

My degu seems to like them more though, near enough grabbing my hand to stop me pulling away from him Just to temporarily hijack a chinchilla thread, my goos develop a death grip on my fingers when oats are involved. It is actually a struggle to get them to let go!
