Hello, Tonight I just noticed that my 6mth old Chin has a lump on her throat. The lump is very firm and about the size of a grape and is located just under the right side of her mandible. She is eating her pellets and alfalfa hay, and is drinking regularly. She seems fine when I put my hand in her cage, but she is now trying to nibble my hand (she never did that before). She also lets out a little squeak if I pick her up, and her whole body shakes when I hold her (like she is quivering). I called the 24hr emergency vet who said they don't specialize in Chinchilla vet care and suggested if she is still eating/drinking I should find a vet clinic that would be able to better assist tomorrow - I have to call around in the morning. I am just freaking out in the mean time and wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what could be wrong and if there is anything I can do for her in the mean time?

I did take her to the vet shortly after posting this. I was given a round of antibiotics but the vet wasn't too confident with their abilities since they weren't overly familiar with chinchilla's. The antibiotics didn't help so I took her to an exotic vet clinic that were more experienced with chinchillas. We found that it was an abscess and they were able to lance it after sedating her. Now she has some stitches and she is a bit groggy but she is doing alright

Thank god it wasnt anything more and that they were able to remove it. Will she have to have those stitches out or are they disolvable?
