Hi all I'm very sad today. After a 4 month ongoing battle with one of my Chinnies with an eye problem, the vet decided final course of action to remove the eye. She came round from the op OK and was fine for hours, then the vet rang to say she had collapsed and died and they couldn't get her back. This leaves my other 14 yr old Chin Chinni on her own. They have never been separated, apart from a matter of hours twice, in the whole 14 yrs. Peppa was always the boss and the more independent, so I'm now concerned for Chilli's welfare. I don't want her getting depressed and at 14 yrs, can't see that she would tolerate a new mate and I wouldn't want to get a youngun and have to repeat the cycle. Any advice, suggestions greatly welcomed.

I'm really sorry for your loss.
Well, theres always the option of getting 2 young kits, so you won't have to repeat the cycle but that depends on whether you want to look after chins for another 15 years or so. Or, depending on if Chilli is displaying depressed signals, get two kits and rehome them properly after.

I'm so very sorry for your loss! You and Chilli must be feeling very sad and lost today. I am sure her absense will be severely felt. I'll be thinking of you.

Hi Pooky
I am so sorry to hear about your lady passing. I think that I am about to go through the same with my boy Spyro. I have been noticing over the past few days that he is pawing at his mouth and seems to be having trouble eating. He is managing but not easily. I am thinking malocclusion. Am getting Kimberley over tonight to give me a hand to check him over as best we can and then he is off to the vet on Friday. I havent had him very long, a couple of months but I love him to bits, he is an absolutely beautiful Wilson White, 4 years old and he has come round from being bad tempered and timid from his previous home to being friendly, always coming to see me, very chattery (to himself!) and handlable every day. I have recently just adopted a kit as a companion for him and was about to start very gradual introductions but think I will wait and see if he comes back from the vet with me on Friday. I think that if they confirm malocclusion in the roots then it will absolutely break my heart but I will have to put him to sleep before he starts to suffer, I couldnt bear to see him in pain.
I own a lot of little critters and I dont know why I do it to myself, they bring so much pleasure but so much hurt when things go wrong x

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Whilst the majority of chins do seem to prefer company as long as he gets plenty of attention from her humans I am sure she will still be a happy chappy. You could also try giving her a safe cuddly toy to snuggle up to
