With the other thread beginning to get a bit long i thought id start again with a new one.
After three days of introductions we are so far getting nowhere with Speedy & Socks. Socks just wants to run after and fight Speedy. Speedy is petrified of Socks so we we have decided to keep them seperate again and swop cages daily etc. The next meet will be this weekend and we'll see how it goes then.
The good news is that Speedy and Slippers have become firm friends. They have bonded very well over the three meets and Yesterday we hit the jackpot as they both followed one another into the dust bath together, rolled together and then groomed one another. We just sat there with them and watched (loved) every minute. We have now had them in the same cage for the last 24 hours and they are as happy as can be. So its one down and one to go as the saying goe's.

Awww that's really nice to hear! I hope Socks becomes friends with Speedy & Slippers!! Was Speedy the submissive goo originally? Or is Socks just bossy? You'll have to let us know how the next meeting goes!! Wish you lots of luck!

We encountered a big problem (well we think it is) as we where swopping cages last night Socks slipped between the cages and was out along with Speedy. Well basically Socks went mental, he stood on his back legs making some kind off hissing noise and was then off all over the place looking for Speedy and once he found him he basically went for the kill (to put it mildly) chasing him constantly and trying to bite him, poor Speedy didnt know where to run and was petrified he ran and jumped in to his cage where we shut the door after trying to get to them which is hard when they are running and jumping over furniture. We will try a meet this weekend but this time we will be well prepared with towells and if it fails we will have no alternative but to take Socks back to where we got him from (at least his family are there). We are really stuck with what to do as Slippers gets on with both of them and seems puzzled to all the mayhem going off around him.

Awww, that's a shame! Socks seems to be a bit of a bully! Are you going to take him back to where you got him from? Would he fit back into his family, cos he does sound quite aggressive! Does he still get on with Slippers? Or his he the same with both Speedy & Slippers?

He gets on fine with Slippers (his brother we presume) so we also presume he will fit back in with his family, we shall speak to where we got him from and see how it goe's. He is an adorable and very inquisitive little thing and also quite tame. Its just when he knows he can get to Speedy its like a switch in his little head that turns him into some crazy little Degus, He's like jackyl & hyde. So we think its for the best if this weekends meet fails as we dont want to get rid of Speedy and feel its unfair to keep one of them in a cage of their own.

Aww, it's a such a shame he doesn't get on well with Speedy at all and Slippers does! If he isn't vicious at all with his family members, maybe you could buy another goo and keep Speedy & Slippers together and Speedy and a new goo together if you or your family don't want to return him? You'll have to let us know how the next meeting goes!

Well after two more failed meets this weekend we decided to donate Socks back to Graves park animal farm. After two weeks of cage swopping, Meets, etc we were still no closer with the pair so it was for the best really. Slippers & Speedy are very happy with one another so its not all bad news. We wasnt sure exactly how Socks or the other degus would be when re-introduced. It couldnt have been better really. A couple of them ran over to him and they all sniffed one another with no draw backs. We stood and watched for a while and it was as though he never been away so an happy ending for Socks as well. One of the workers there keeps degus so he's in good hands. We'll visit occasionally as well .
