If degu females get pregnant everytime they mate, like I know some animals do, then I definitely have a pregnant Tweety. Both of my boys tried to mount her about a month back, so I'm not sure who's gonna be the poppa. I think Tweety is already starting to show too. Although I read that they only show at 2 months. This has me concerned then that the previous owner who didn't know they had a male and a female might've empregnated her before I bought the pair. Anyhow, I went down to my local pet store (in my opinion, the best pet store in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver) and picked up a used 20G aquarium, lid, wheel, and water bottle. When should I move momma over to the new tank? Should I move any of the boys with her? The male who is not the father... will he help Tweety or try to hurt the babies? Does anyone have pictures of a pregnant degu around? I checked the photos section, but I saw non-pregnant degus and puppies. I will definitely post degu baby pics when I get the chance. And my plan is to separate the girls and boys when I'm able to. Thanks in advance for your help guys! Cari

there's no real way to tell early on other than they simply appear to be gaining weight. a couple of days before they give birth, you will start to see teats. did you hear either of the males announcing a successful mating?

Do degu females get pregnant everytime they mate and the male does his chirping thing? Or is it a hit or miss thing with them?

the chirping only indicates a "successful" mating in that the male has completed the act, not necessarily that the female is definitely pregnant. one of my boys woke me up in the middle of the night to announce he'd successfully mated... with himself.
