I have a teacher,Ms.sun and her degu , Hondoni is Yukichi's sister. Ms.sun often feeds fodder, some grass and a few vegetables for Hondoni. But she's been out of food lately, and Ms.sun thinks "can degus be healthy without eat fodder?" So,I want to ask this question, Can degus just eat grass and vegetables?

They can certainly eat grass! Hay is just dehydrated grass, after all. You have to be very careful with vegetables. Many contain natural sugars, which will harm your degus because they are naturally diabetic. For a properly balanced diet, they should also eat other plants. Here's a list. deguworld.proboards.com/thread/8772/safe-plants-herbs-leaves-consumptionThe other things you need to remember are that degus need to change any diet gradually, possibly over a week or longer. Also, the degus have been eating dry food. Wet food (fresh) is likely to upset their stomachs for a while because of the extra moisture in their diets.

They also need artificial vitamin d supplementation if they aren't getting it from commercial pellets.
Vegetables sold for human consumption probably won't have enough of the right minerals, especially calcium.

As said, degus can eat grass, but fresh grass should only be given slowly and gradually. Also, make sure there are no dangerous plants mixed in, and that the grass itself is gathered from a clean area. It should still be washed before giving any to degus (or any animals).
