Hi DL, nice to see you It depends what you mean by old and it varies quite a lot, but I would say that 6yrs is getting senior.

My experience is that a degu will start to show that they're not young any more somewhere close to 4 or 5 years of age (but this is based on exactly one degu so far, so it might vary), and after that increasingly there will be signs of age. So I agree with Moletteuk that 6 years seems like a good basic guideline. But it will vary by the animal, of course. Evidently, some degus will live for closer to ten years after that, and some of them seem to stay forever energetic and spry.
I think it depends a lot on all of care, genetics and just chance.
