Mooney (one of the Marauders) started limping a while ago (week of Feb 20th). Checked him out, turns out he has a wound on his back end that has since scabbed over. Most of the scab is now gone, but there's still a mark. He's still limping, but perhaps not as dramatically? He's getting around the multistory cage just fine (lots of jumps and climbs), shoves his brothers to get more seeds, destroys wooden toys. His weight is slightly lower than his brothers (244g vs 253g) but has been stable since I noticed the limping. I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. The mark could just be a residual bruise and the limping just be from the wound pulling whenever he moves. I've attached some photos here, the bloody one is from the 25th, the rest are from yesterday or today. photos.app.goo.gl/xLvoG2pByXKns5Nd9 Any thoughts?

Oh that looks a bit sore, poor lad.
Do you know how he did it? Its possible that he could have a slight sprain in the leg he's limping on and they can take up to 8 weeks to fully heal.
The wound itself looks like its healing OK, there doesn't look as if there's any swelling or redness.

He is a poor little guy who is happy to take sunflower seeds in exchange for me poking at his wound!
I'm not sure! I thought one of his brothers might have nipped him, but it seems too long for that. They like to sharpen their apple sticks into deadly weapons and some of the wooden ledges are a bit pointy.
That would make sense! Ironically, I managed to sprain my ankle Monday and am now in a boot, so Mooney and I will match!
Awesome, glad you think so. I didn't feel any heat but the dark color (bruise?) was worrying me.

There will still be healing going on beneath the scab. As long as it stays infection free and making progress, I'd just monitor it.

I have visions of Mooney wearing a tiny boot on his foot, lol. Hope you both get better soon.

Will do! Only the bottom most part is still covered by the scab, the rest feels like skin (maybe a little hair in the way of the photo too). Hah, that would be adorable! I'll see if I can photoshop one on him! Thank you

Agree with Savvy, looks OK to me too, but obvs keep an eye on it, it might be quite deep since he's limping. Get well soon Mooney and you, HP, with your matching limp!
Mooney must be a good lad, I think this must be his first solo thread!

Awesome, glad to hear you this so as well, Molette! Haha, thank you! He very much is a good one He and Prongs had the horrible fighting saga a few years back, but other than that, he's a gem!

It looks like two wounds to me ... a big chomp on the rear end. If those teeth connected with bone, it would hurt a long time. When I had bites that hit bone, it really hurt for several weeks.
Looking forward to the superimposed boot on his foot. 😁😁😁 I hope your ankle heals well and quickly.

Definitely could have been a bite! Ouch, that doesn't sound pleasant at all. Haha, I'm still working on getting the perfect picture to work from! And thank you The upper part of the wound looks completely healed, but unfortunately the lower part opened up again and scabbed. I've tried putting up more ledges and ramps since I think there would be mutiny if I restricted everyone to a single level of the cage. He's holding his hind leg pretty stiff and is still limping, but is getting around OK and holding weight.

I wonder if there could be a pocket of infection underneath?

Possibly? I did see if before it scabbed over again though and didn't see anything that looked like an infection. I'll continue keeping a close eye on him and his weight.

If there's a chance of infection, best get it confirmed and treated asap. Messy, but perhaps try a dab of Manuka honey?

Or give it a squeeze if you feel up to trying that.

I still need to buy some Manuka honey!
I did give it a squeeze, haha. No discharge and he didn't mind me poking around (distracted by sunflower seeds, but no pain response). The scab looks like it's about to come off again soon, so I'll see what the tissue looks like underneath.

Just added two new photos to the album: photos.app.goo.gl/xLvoG2pByXKns5Nd9The scab fell off while I was cleaning the area. The skin below looks OK to me, bit of a bruise though. He's also managed to scrape his tail against something

For sure, Bouncy!
He's still limping, but getting around ok. I've given him metacam to help with any remaining swelling if this is a sprain. I'm not feeling any broken bones!

For sure! It's still a bit bruised and actually right over a boney area. Must have hurt quite a bit I understand more why he's still limping. It looked great the next day! But he managed to open it up again today. I put some antibiotic cream on it, hoping that will help. Poor babe just can't win at the moment.
