Not travelling to Austria this year means I've not been able to find some fun things for the goos. That, and my surfing efforts mean I had an idea! When the group consisted of Sausage, Spud, and Squidgygoo, they had a Wagner metal flying saucer. There were known issues with parts of the bearing mechanism, which couldn't be replaced. Sausage and Spud loved it! So, my plan evolved.......... I found a piece of waste aluminium on eBay - 10mm thick, 450mm diameter. It was a cutout. That was the disc sorted. The edges were very square and sharp, so out came the angle grinder. I also gave it a once-over with a wire brush (because my dad dragged me up properly). There also came some quick Googling so I could find the exact centre, because my compass wasn't big enough. Centre found, I then drilled holes for a metal 6" lazy Susan bearing. I did think about other flanged units and Rollerblade wheels, but this lot will chew absolutely anything, and a wheel felt like tempting fate. A can of enamel paint, and it started to come together! I did choose turquoise, but it was a forest green that came out :/ I chiselling out a seat for the bearings in some wood offcuts I had, attached it, then bolted the disc itself to the bearings and.......... Voilà! I can replace the base with a metal one if they chew it. I was worried it wasn't free spinning enough, but a chat with a friend showed the grease already on the bearing unit was too thick. Thinned it with some wd40, and it now spins fine! If they ever get on it to run, I'll post some footage

Brilliant! rofl at the 10mm aluminium - that's going to take them a while to chew through!

Brilliant! rofl at the 10mm aluminium - that's going to take them a while to chew through! I did look for a thinner disc, but they only went up to 300mm

I LOVE the thickness of what you got . . . it's . . . kind of luxurious!!

It's cool, I'd like to feel the weight/lightness of it in my hands.

Oh, it's a heavy disc! Despite this, I still had to put rubber feet on the bottom of the stand to stop it sliding on the tiled floor.
