With a sad heart, I have to give up my degus. My new landlord is being an ass and I can't move flats at this time. They are brothers, almost 6 years old. I've taken great care of them over the years always providing the best quality food. They have never been aggressive or caused any issues. No health issues either. I'm based in West London, but I'll deliver them to anyone who wants them and can provide them with a good home. The cage is Liberta Explorer, including two running wheels. Their bedding recently has been hemp mats and I will provide a supply of them, as well as plenty of food. Pictures: imgur.com/a/iJJqi06

Awww, Michael! I'm so very sorry!! This is so hard for you and your boys, who are absolutely beautiful!!
Had your new landlord previously agreed to them? You don't need to answer that. I want to hope that he will change his position.

If I lived nearer you, I would adopt them immediately. I so hope someone on this forum can help.

The agency that was showing me the place said that the degus are fine to move in with me. Turns out they haven't discussed that with the landlord, who now saw the boys and is throwing a hissy fit. The agency is playing dumb of course... It's a right mess. It breaks my heart as I've jumped through so many hoops in the past for these guys, but this time there isn't much choice, I need to find a home for them asap.

That's such a pain! I could understand the landlord saying no to a cat or dog because of potential damage, but it's like saying no to a hamster! Could you ask what worries the landlord about them so you can calm their fears, or is it just a firm "no" to any pets? Could you offer to get the place professionally cleaned when you leave? I'm afraid I can only manage two groups at a time, which I currently have. I could try to introduce them to my pair, but their recent bereavement and the fact that it's Spidergoo means it wouldn't work I'll keep my eyes open for another home for you. As ever, if anyone would like to take them on but can't travel, degu chauffeurs R us (I) would be happy to help.

Ok, great news - a pair of my friends is willing to take in my degus! I also had an positive response from a degu rehoming place, but I'll go with my friends since that will allow me to see the boy more often!
Thank you everyone for your interest. Never trust lettings agents.
Peace V

Im so glad you found a solution, we ran into 'tensions' with our landlord last year at renewal time. similar thing - estate agents hadnt fully communicated with him either

Hmmmm . . . sounds like the estate agents need to start giving proof of communication to their clients so that everyone is really on the same page.

Sounds to me like you need to get everything in writing. If the estate agents can't be trusted by the landlords, how are they supposed to be trusted by the tenants?

Hi! Thank you everyone for the input. Good news - found a new home for the boys! Actually two homes - one with a degu shelter in Luton, and another one with my really good friends. I'm moving them within a few days to my friends' place because that will mean that I can still see my boys fairly regularly!!

They're being separated? That's such sad news, but it's good that you'll still be able to see them.
