Both of my Degu Girls will chatter excitedly when I get home. If I don't stick my head in and say hi they will chirp or whistle loudly.
Mocha was making loud bird noises when I got home from Yoga last night. I went in and asked her what was up. She was standing on her back feet like a Prairie Dog whistling and chirping. Tanzania was sitting beside her chirping too. When I spoke to Mocha she opened her mouth and chirped a different pattern of sounds back to me! She continued to talk to me. I started to wonder if something was wrong. They had eaten most of their pelleted food and hay but were not out and had plenty of water. I reached in and picked her up. I have just recently been able to do this with both her and Tanzania. She ran up my arm and all over my shoulders then wanted back in the cage. I picked up Tanzania so she wouldn't feel left out. Gave them both treats.
They have been picking up their food bowl and tossing it around the cage lately!! I must come up with some more interesting play things for their cage.

Aw bless!! They are amazing aren't they?!
I do get a particular 'squeak' which is more of a command........ usually, let me out the cage please, or give me a treat, lol. It is a different noise to other squeaks and is most definitely directed at me.

When I walk into my room, where my two degu girls are, they snap to attention and run down to the door, well at least one usually does. Then they start gnawing and making such a racket until i take them out of the cage.
