We recently adopted a kitten from a bad situation and unbeknown to us she was carrying fleas. We treated her within 24 hours of her arriving and blitzed the whole house with flea spray and boiled every fabric but still the fleas found my old little degu who lives in a room never visited by our kitten. I saw a number of old posts about degus and fleas and thought I would create a new one for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.
We have an exotic specialist vet for or degu who is absolutely fantastic. He confirmed that degus alcan get fleas easily and it is safe to treat them for fleas. He recommended XENO50, which you can buy online from pets at home for £33 for 9 doses. Safe to use on degus. You apply it once and then you can repeat every two weeks if necessary. He advised that some vets will say you need a consultation to prescribe them, but you don't need to pay for a consultation, most large pet stores will sell them, as do many internet outlets.
I will update the thread once we have treated our Gu and let you know how we get on and the results.

Thanks for letting us know! I know a lot of the usual flea treatments aren't good for goos, so it's nice to have something we can turn to.
I had a problem last year with seed moths from a bad batch of food. Regarding the goo cage, I found that steam cleaning the cage and toys was sufficient, and didn't remove all the scent. I believe the same is flea for flea eggs, which could remain dormant for quite some time.
