I'm really sorry, I don't know how to make my own forum. This is an emergency. My degu Bramble came home from the vets yesterday. She has a misaligned jaw so we have to trim her teeth. She went into shock and had to sit in a oxygenated box for an hour.
We got home and she has just sat still under a heater (vet's suggestion). We have syringe fed food and water,
I'm really not sure if she's going to make it.
If you've been following Bramble, you'll know she's been through a lot.
Thank you
Please help

Oh no – poor Bramble. Keep her under the heater. Offer her food every half an hour or so. Offer her any of her favourite foods – rolled oats, puffed rice, thawed out peas. You can also try and offer her water via a syringe.
Was she given a pain killer?
How is she doing now? If you poke her, does she respond?

Ditto Yasmin!
Keep her nice and snug, fed, and hydrated. Is she on her own at the moment? If yes, she may like something to snuggle up to at this time more than ever, if you don't mind sacrificing a pair of socks.
How does she feel when you touch her? Is she warm to the touch, or feel cold? If she feels cold, I would also suggest something around her so she can retain the heat.
Come on little Bramble! You can do it!

Hang in there, both of you! Dental treatment can be traumatic at the best of times, let alone for a goo who's already been through so much. I think she'll make it If she's showing slight improvement, that's positive. You say you were given no painkillers - it might be worth a call to the vet to ask for some. Knowing the history, you shouldn't have to make an appointment. With luck, the receptionist will be able to have a word with the vet and get it ready for you. Don't worry, she would have had a good dose at during the treatment yesterday, but it’s likely started to wear off.

Is she eating, moving about on her own? Does her body feel warm or cold? How are Biscuit and Binki responding to her?

She is not eating or moving. Not even drinking. Ii syringe food and water 3 times a day, body is warm because under heater. Other girls ignore her but pile up at bedtime as usual.

I almost think I would be taking her back to the vet. She may need a fluids injection and more immediate pain relief.

I can't even imagine what she is going through. But until she gets to the stage where we have to put her down, I will be with her everyday caring for her and doing everything I can to save her.

We totally get that, and you can be sure that we know what you are feeling and are supporting you.
It is not easy, and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Our neighbour just suggested that she might have another abscess?!
What do you think?

Is that what the dental work just done was for?

Bramble had a horrible time with an abscess earlier in the year that was misdiagnosed, and degu mum had to find another vet to get it sorted. From memory, she was very poorly.

It is possible that she is in a lot of pain/inflammation and that Metacam will help with that. The vet should have seen or at least smelled an abcess if there was one especially considering her history. Antibiotics should have also been prescribed, I think.
What did the vet trim – front teeth? molar spurs? Was she under anesthetic? Did they do x-rays? Wonder what caused her to go into shock in the first place (I assume it was the anesthetic?)
Will be thinking of you and Bramble all night and tomorrow. Wishing you both all the best and anxiously await an update, hopefully with good news.

Abscesses STINK. Like, dead things and rotten vegetables and generally rank. The vet would have been able to smell an abscess because they are just that gross, particularly if they've festered for any length of time.
