I have just noticed something a bit odd woth Chewy when he was eating. He leans into the bowl to gave some food then when he starts to eat it his right leg starts to move in a twitching/spasm sort of way. I'm not sure whether he is in control of it or not. I'm also not sure if it is just when he is eating or happening all the time as when he finished eating he went straight to sit on his bed.
Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before or might know what is going on?
Just bit concerned as when Chewy was younger (Only couple months old) he suffered from fits, only ever had two fits and these were in the space of one week but then never happened again. Just wanted to be sure its not a sign of this.

I think you need to keep a diary of when this is happening, get a video of it if you can. That way you'll have something to show to the vet and can establish if there is a pattern.
It's possible it was just an involuntary twitch, or perhaps the angle he was at, but only a vet would be able to say for sure.
If he's behaving normally I wouldn't worry too much, just keep an eye on it.

I have never seen this in any of my degus but it could be that he has injured that leg and that in a certain position it twitches.
I agree with savvycat's reply – keep an eye on it and note when it happens. If Chewy is behaving normally otherwise, I don't think there is a need to worry about it right now.
Please keep us updated.

It may be a goo version of a restless leg?
I agree with Yasmin that it doesn't sound like something to worry about, especially if he's otherwise normal.

The only other thing that occurs to me that could be a slight possibility would be a spinal issue causing a nerve to jangle down a leg like sciatica, but I would expect some sort of pain reaction with this. See if you can have a feel down the spine that everything seems smooth and maybe check that he can bend down rounding his back and also reach up and back without issue.

Sorry I haven't responded on the last few days currently having issues with my broadband so was unable to get on the internet. We noticed Chewy doing this again the next day but haven't noticed any change in his behaviour at all or any sign of issues moving etc. I spoke to the Patchys diabetic vet today for advise and she suggested keeping an eye on him and you mention and keep a diary of when we see this occurring. Thank you for your responses. It is probably me just worrying and being a over protective degu mummy

Let us know if you notice or figure out anything more. It's always tricky to know what to do or even think about weird things like this.
