Thought I'd document his tail healing process! Well it only happened a few days ago but already he's got down to business and has removed most of the dried bone. There's a small bit left near the base which he is taking his time on - I guess as it's so close to his remaining healthy tail. This was the day it happened And this is it now Very pleased with how quickly he's dealt with it as it was creeping me out 😫🙈 hopefully he doesn't chew too much off near the base now and make it bleed, causing healing complications. But he's doing well so far, very proud of him 😪 All I did was clean and disinfect his cage and remove things that could stick to his tail.. I didn't clean it as I thought keeping it wet may hinder it drying out, I just let nature take its course and it seems to have been the right decision here. I do miss his tuft but he does look incredibly cute with a ickle tail 😍 and at least I won't have to go through this with him again as this was my worst nightmare come true 😫

Yep! A tail can deglove anywhere along its length!

Partly through cannibalism, I think someone on here has a goo with no tail.

I think it's much less likely to happen again because there isn't so much of it to get caught in something any more. I can't remember any double de-glovings on the forum.
Is that the strings of tendons that are still in a ghostly fuzz? Could you get a photo on a black background? We have had tail injuries on the forum before where it looks like bits of white string come out of the tail somewhere along it's length, I think that's what that is.

Yes I think they are dried strings of skin or tendons, so gross!!! I'm assuming they also get nibbled away? Or is it something of a concern moletteuk

Also I was thinking the other day, remember that time I mentioned about a bit of bone sticking out of his tail? From a bite of Tibb's; well that one bled quite a bit. Maybe this has degloved due to that bite awhile ago? Could explain the lack of bleeding this time?

You mean you think the deglove point is the same place as the old bite? It could certainly have made a weak point.
I don't think the strings are a particular concern other than them catching on something. I think I might be tempted to snip them off with some scissors. You could do a single one as a test that he can't feel it.

EEEEEEEEK! I can't 😷😷😷😷 but I'll try. I pulled one the other day thinking it was a bit of fine hay and almost chundered when I realised 😷
Ok I'll have a go though *deep breath*

Well it was more at the tip this protruding bone and what seemed to have happened after, was that the very tip bent over and eventually seemed to shrivel away.
I was wondering if the tail lost blood supply to the end and it eventually degloved the end sheathing.
Still not 100% sure how or where he lost his tail and I never did find it 😷 but his tail had been looking normal before it happened.

Partly through cannibalism, I think someone on here has a goo with no tail. It's lofty that has no tail any more. She degloved it about four times til it was right back to her butt and the vet put a stitch over the hole where it used to be. She's fine without it, it took her a little while to get her balance but now she's almost normal, well, as normal as she gets, lol.

Hi Uglibug 👋🏻
Wow poor lofty! So what happened? Did it deglove once and she kept chewing at it until there was no tail left to chew? All self inflicted?

We're not entirely sure tbh. It started as the last inch or so of tail going missing, which she dutifully cleared up, but just as it was healing she lost more. This happened several times til there was just nothing left. The final bit of tail we took her to the vet to have amputated because we weren't sure she could reach well enough to do it herself. We're not sure if she was chewing it, one of the others was chewing it or she genuinely got it trapped somewhere in the cage, but we've never worked out where. She doesn't seem affected by it at all, just a bit wobbly sometimes when she leaps from ledge to ledge.

So, she's gone from looking like a giant gerbil (how I have to describe goos to people) to a giant hamster!

Just an update on his tail. Well for a long while he left a tiny bit of the dried bone at the bottom near the base, I guess he was waiting until it was truly ready to be removed as he's finally removed it tonight. The tip looks a little sore and red where he's nibbled it today but I've cleaned it and will keep an eye on it now. If it looks worse than this tomorrow I'll get him some antibiotics.
