Hi guys, i have a degu with unknown age aince breeder had no idea when she waa born. But she had one litter so i guess 6 months to 1 year. Her weight is around 178 grams and im worried if thats okay, she is eating and drinking water.
Also another side problem, whenever her 3 months old daughter approaches her she is squeaking so loudly, also caught her once trying to mate her daughter. She was fine few days ago but is going crazy now. Could she be in heat? (I have no male degus)

OK, first thing to say is not to worry. Weight is individual to the goo. As long as they are eating, drinking, weeing, and pooing properly and are not losing weight, you should be fine. Degus constantly look like they're humping. This is sometimes grooming, but usually a way of reinforcing alpha goo status. This is assuming you're 110% sure you have girls! Squeaks mean anything. There was a recent discussion, and we found that there was no common theme. Goos are just weird

Have you had her long?
That weight is the very low end of normal, you would need to have been tracking her weight for a few weeks at least to see if it is normal for her. If she looks thin to you then I think I would take her for a vet checkup and get her mouth examined just to be on the safe side, dental disease is very common. You could also observe her eating habits, see if she is dropping lots of things, struggling with fiddly things or hard things, drooling, pawing at her mouth, etc.
More squeaking than usual could indicate some kind of disturbance, it could be extra alarm calls, or it could be some kind of agitation, possibly from being in heat or her daughter getting stronger and challenging her authority.
My females are showing milder signs of being in heat through the summer, more humping and escitement, lower appetite and more activity, but not as pronounced as through the winter months.
I would take her to the vet and/or try and feed her up for a week and see if she can put on weight. Extra oil seeds and high calcium seeds, maybe some nut pieces, and extra regular food and forage if you can interest her.

Ive had her for about 6 months, and she has been around 250 when pregnant, but since she has given birth she remains at that weight, doesnt drop stuff, plays with me, loves attention. Acts absolutely normal, but at their usual weekly weighting. Her daughter has 172 and she has 180. Thats why i got worried.

I was just looking back at the weight survey. There were a couple of goos there under 200g. If her pregnancy weight was only 250g, and her weight has been constant since, she sounds like she could just be a (very) small goo. Could you share some photos of her with us?
