Tbh the vet is just being cautious. Just like humans, there's always a risk that any infection isn't fully gone when antibiotics end. If that is the case, it becomes a lot harder to shift, and usually involves another full course of a different antibiotic. In a world of drug resistant bacteria, it compounds the problem.
