Right! I've gotta get to the bottom of this sneezing malarkey. Even Kev is sneezing.
Options:
I have daffodils in my kitchen, but the sneezing started before then. Gonna put them elsewhere anyway.
Above the cages I have a lot of cacti on the window sill, and a peace Lilly on a table next to them. However Pinky and Perky also sneeze and they're in a different room so I think its perhaps food related.
Their dandelion feast has those dandelion puffs in and when I grab a handful the fibres of the puffs go everywhere. I'm thinking it could be this?
They all seem to sneeze a lot. No other symptoms though. Eyes are clear, noses are clear etc.
If it is the dandelion puffs or some part of their diet irritating their noses, does it matter? Are they okay to carry on sneezing because obviously the food is good for them. Or is it hazardous? I'm gonna clean their eating zones tonight and then give them everything bar the dandelion mix. Annoying because I have a huge tub of it mixed in with other stuff ☹️

I think you can only figure it out through elimination testing.
I would think it's not too serious, but it would be preferable if you can stop it because there will be some irritation to the nasal passages.

Sneezing

Sometimes it can be caused by the inevitable tiny powdery bits of plant mixes that they sniff up while foraging. It is a little odd for all of them to be doing it often though.
Does their hay smell fine? No slightly stale/mouldy smell to it?

No their hay smells fine xx
I've not fed them the dandelion mix which had the puffs in and sneezing is nowhere near as bad x

Didn't the sneezing start when you got the hemp mats or have we already eliminated these? sorry I've forgotten 😬 Have been cleaning the top floor allllll day and cutting the mats made me sneeze! Doesn't make my boys sneeze but maybe ventilation in the flat is an issue? Perhaps consider investing in an air purifier? It'll suck up all dust and pollen and dander out of the air if it's something airborne.
On the shpock boot sale app they have loads for cheap! I'm getting one too, the vax pure air 300

OOh just seen this - it IS the dandelion Em. Did you get it from Zooplus? BB used to sneeze & snuffle when I gave him some, it stopped as soon as it was gone. It was the puffy white bits wot did it. It only happened with one bag though, the next ones were all yellow flower, no white bits. Funny because it doesn't affect the babies, the chins or rabbits the same way. BB went off dandelion until that bag was gone now I think about it, he associated it with sneezing.

Still sneezing though. I've gotten through all of the dandelion mix and randomname it was from p@h. Sneezing isn't as bad though. It just seems to be after they've literally shoved their face in their food. A lot of my stuff is finely chopped though so I'm just guessing it's that?

Could be. I think lots of things can be an irritant in very small inhaled particles, that wouldn't otherwise be a problem. Do your girls eat the chopped forage? Mine won't touch tiny pieces.

Yeah hoover up everything and everything and so does Kev. Pickle hasnt been eating much lately, though no signs of mouth discomfort or pain or anything else. She does seem to be eating something as she's always rushing to her food. Just leaves a lot too. But a lot of it is hay. But yeah, they eat the finely chopped stuff!

Mine have switched to eating more hay in the last couple of days, I'm guessing it's something to do with the sun coming out! Beautiful here today and lots of activity in the cages.
Mine sneeze if I put their forage in a pile, not do much if I scatter it a bit. Think it's because the bit they really want is at the bottom of the heap.

Sneezing is nowhere near as bad now.
So much food wastage per week though, I definitely don't OVER feed. 😤 Makes me mad about all the £££ I'm throwing in the bin per week, but I don't want to not give them enough.

Have you finished the dandelion mix? Did you decide whether that was the cause?
Mine are so picky with their forage, they pick through it, eat what they want and then ignore the rest, I throw more than half away, and that goes for bought or hand picked stuff.

I don't know if it was that, as I finished it a while back, and sneezing continued.
I'm glad I'm not the only one throwing lots away.

I throw loads away, beauty is that I have a composter so I can recycle some of it. Might get some very strange plants coming up though.
When you get your new flat Em, you may be able to do the same if the other residents don't mind.

Lol! Yeah could do. I don't know if I'll definitely be moving, looking around tomorrow I've never made compost in my life lol.

Mine sneeze when there's dusty food. I don't bother giving mine the dregs at the bottom of the bag anymore.
Re food, try just adding when the bowl is approaching empty. It might not be every day, but don't worry.

Thanks bouncy, I'll give that a try. I don't feed mine the dregs of bags either, but I do order chopped stuff as they enjoy licking it up!

I think my girls scatter most of their food around the cage rather than eat it - the only thing that I see being eaten often is their nuggets! Lil weirdos They get nuggets in little bowls, forage in big bowls, hay in a plant pot then seeds or flower mixes scattered around - the forage and hay ends up everywhere!

I tend to feed mine in various places, but usually not in a bowl. The dregs of the bags go out for little mousy under the shed or for the birds.
