Hi! When I went in to feed our 2 degu's this morning, I found a pool of weird stuff in there, thought it might have been vomit, but I recall reading somewhere that they're incapable of that.. Any idea's??

I suspect it is diarrhea. I would have you check the bottoms of your degus to see if anyone has smear on their fur or tails. You need to think of what they have had to eat. Too much in the way of fresh greens, especially if they are new to them, or are not accustomed to them at all. You may need to have a vet take a look. You need to keep an eye on your degus so that you can know who has the diarrhea, and how they are doing. Diarrhea is pretty traumatic, and degus can go downhill pretty quickly with it.

The thing is, we haven't changed their diet, they get the same feed as they always have, and it's not guinnea pig food, but actual degu food, so it seems rather odd! They do get some fresh stuff every now and then, like a little bit of carrot, but not to much because of the sugar, some basil leaves, some cucumber and the occasional nut, but they haven't gotten that for a while now...
We'll make sure to keep an eye out for more, but there hasn't been anything since I left for work this morning, and we are starting to suspect that it might be some of their feed that they just pee'd on, so it got all gooey...

ROFL!! Well that is a good possibility! Now you mention it, I have seen that a couple times over the years in our cages as well. Just in case though, keep a good eye for a few days to be sure there is not another occurrence. You could take a good sniff of it . . . if there is no nasty odor, then it isn't diarrhea.

Mine end up with patches like this when there's some wee or moisture, and poo or food has been trampled into it.

You could take a good sniff of it . . . Ewwwwww As a pose to a bad sniff?!! pmsl This forum does nothing to dispel the 'myth' that goos are weird, & so are their owners!

I can now safely say, that it was some of their feed! Although, I didn't go ahead and smell it... Thanks for the help!

You will, at some point, sniff something - also you will crumble a poop to check it's consistency. This is unavoidable. Rabbit & guinea pig forums are also obsessed with poop - we are NOT weird. (It's a good indicator of health in herbivores) You will probably also photograph poop & ask "Is this normal?" at some point. Don't tell you all this in the pet shop, do they? #poopobsession

It's the point where you're sat in the playpen with them one at a time actively wishing for them to poop to make sure it's all normal that it hits you with just how obsessed with poo you've become.

I find my interest in poo is more about figuring out how the heck they managed to fling it to a particular location.

We have an open-barred staircase. It's always quite impressive how they manage to just balance it on the edge of the drop, just sat there at eye-level as you're walking up the stairs.

I think the funniest "poo story" I've heard is when one of our members was shopping and couldn't find something in her purse, so started emptying things out, and out rolled some degu poo!! HOW do you explain that? LOL!!
