My friend recently rescued a goo who has bumble foot. He is on antibiotics and painkillers, he also has little socks on both of his back feet. He keeps chewing at his socks to try and clean his feet, is there any way to stop him? We don't really want to resort to a collar since atm he's alone and this would stop him from grooming entirely. The poor little mite is slightly depressed and we don't really want to make him any worse.

I know it might defeat the object of the socks, but could you maybe start a pattern of times (maybe twice a day) in a controlled area like a box or hard floor, when the socks could be taken off for short grooming times? Alternatively, how long will treatment take before socks come off? Scaredygoo hates grooming and dustbaths, and hates the others having a go,but seems to cope OK.

Socks will be on for 7 - 10 days, as soon as they're not open and weeping any more they can come off. Just need to keep him occupied until then.

The only thing I can think of is a heatpad, it's the best thing for keeping my lot calm and still anyway. Bear in mind he won't be able to groom himself as he normally would with his back feet, might be worth trying brushing him with a toothbrush - good luck with that!
If the socks become a complete nightmare, the other option would be to keep him in a substrate- and sand free ultra clean space that gets wiped down regularly.

I tried the toothbrush thing - they attacked it. I got a little rubberised finger groomer, they ran away hahahahahaha

The socks are off!! Just a few little scabs left and finish the course of antibiotics and he should be fine. The first thing he did was have a good roll in his bath and a good clean, lol. He also has a new home in a week or so once he's back up to scratch with a bereaved goo looking for a new friend.
