Hi everyone, We are soon to become the owners of a 8 week old chin from the RSPCA. Some books say that you should feed them half rations, normal rations being 2 heaped tablespoons. Has anyone had a chin this young and did you limit the amount of food they had acess to? thanks

Wow that is a very young chin. They are not normally seperated from their mum until around 3 months. Is there a reason for him being so young?
I would monitor the food carefully, assume a small ration, but if that is going far too quickly, or he is not putting on weight steadily, increase it.
You will need to have a digital scales so that you can monitor weight progress, this is a good idea to get used to now, and maintain it as he grows up.

The RSPCA are struggling for room, they have 4 chins at the mo(2 females,1 male and the baby boy)in the one cage. They say that the chin should be weaned by then. Some books say 6 weeks and others 10 weeks. Thank you for the help and I'll make sure that he has finished feeding off his mum before he goes home with us.

Thanks, he's really tame as well. He'll sit there and have behind his ears tickled an tummy rubbed until the cows come home.
