What would happen if a Degu killed and ate a house spider? Also, a house spiders bite isn't strong enough to pierce human skin, but their venom is quite powerful (like a bee sting) what would happen if one was to bite a Degu? Can they break Degu skin?
I'm worried because we get them all the time around here because of the jungle our neighbor calls a garden.
Google had no results and it's quite urgent, I've had 2 giant spiders in my room today that I've seen and I've not managed to get either due to not being able to fly spray because of the Degus and them showing up in awkward spots I can't get at. Thanks

That's so eerie.. There's a spider sitting under the desk (the crunchy type) and I was thinking to myself should I remove him incase Garf finds him as he's out and about upstairs 🙊

I wouldn't remove them, especially as it's cooling down a little now they will only come back in. House spiders literally eat pet waste and any food we drop, it's the garden spiders that do not come inside that kill all the flies and other annoying insects. House spiders are a pest and nothing more, always kill them, for your Goo if nothing else.
That being said I've witnessed our Gerbils attack and eat spiders, the spiders are no match for a rodent it seems as Degu are faster and stronger and they don't even put up a fight against a Gerbil. The issue is, Degu seem very fragile otherwise, and god knows what would happen if they ingested spider venom, I think they are a lot less resilient than a Gerbil.

Gerbils are also omnivorous and, having seen Pootle massacre a live mealworm or two (nomnomnom), those guys are probably looking forward to the migration! My goos have had a spider or two near their cage and come across them during their run. They just ignore them. I don't think a house spider would bite unless threatened.
Keep an eye open for them encountering web. It's hilarious to see them fight like a hooman trying to get rid of a wasp!

Yeah I've had a few massive ones the past week also. I don't think many of them really pose a threat do they? Most would rather run and hide from larger things?? I didn't think many had that strong a poison here to do anything fatal. I know the tube web spiders bite can be pretty harsh but they are the least likely to come inside and generally only by accident plus they often don't run arouns - we have millions of them round here so rarely get other outside spiders now as they're quite aggressive and kill most other spiders. We still have lots of the big horrible house ones though lol!!
The image of them encountering web is hilarious lol!!

Frankie has mercilessly killed every insect or arachnid that came close to him. He also ate a bit of them. It's only been a couple of times, but let's just say it's not him I'm concerned about in the matter. He's killed and eaten a small amount of a crane fly, one of those pale house spiders, a moth, and an earwig. He's a small degu but he's a total savage.

lol bouncy that was a good image of degu vs spider web! I have had spiders in the goo room that I found dead but I must admit I don't think we have to be concerned about the spiders we get in the UK. Sure they may have venom in them but their teeth aren't big or sharp enough to pierce human skin never mind getting through degu fur and skin. Have watched my degu's standing on two legs like meerkats watching a fly/moth go around the room and seems to get their attention but not sure if they have ate any but sure it wouldn't do them any harm. Maybe would be concerned about wasps and bees but they never really get into house and if they do I spot and kill them before they get close to my babies. Now if I was in Australia or somewhere like that, I would be very concerned about spiders lol

i had a similar situation where Mowgli was running about in my room and suddenly I spotted a little mouse running around not far from her! Wasn't sure whether to let them be, but then worried that a mouse bite might carry various infections so shooed her away before they saw each other.

I think the risk from spiders is pretty low, there aren't many venomous ones in the UK and they only tend to bite when threatened. They should co-exist with degus with each ignoring the other, this is what I find anyway.
